Shirley worked as a midwife for 15 years, followed by 12 years as a nurse in General Practice, and is now retired from a management role in the NHS. Shirley was aware of the work of Bridgemead from its earliest days – her father having been one of the original Trustees with Dr Ray King. Her grandmother was a resident at Bridgemead giving Shirley a gratifying insight into Bridgemead. Shirley works with vulnerable older people in her local church and is keen to see services adapt and develop to provide effective support for older people locally. Since her appointment as Trustee in 2011 Shirley has applied her wide training and experience to good effect at Bridgemead. She believes that Bridgemead is special because it offers a high standard of care in a family environment for the residents enabling them to feel valued. Bridgemead provides a holistic approach to care providing for the residents physically and spiritually.
