The home has flood defences built in. But these addressed the flood risk anticipated 30 years ago. Climate change increases the risk of the River Avon flooding year by year. The Environment Agency has projected that Bridgemead will almost certainly be flooded once in the next 20 years.
Twice in the past 20 years we have come close to flooding. Now, each time we have sustained rainfall, staff become increasingly anxious.To move our residents out of their home in the event of a flood would be a complex and fraught task. The proposed solution is visually unobtrusive and protects residents’ outlook onto the river. It reduces the risk of water getting into the building to about once in 65 years.
It will cost in the region of £945,000.
